NCALAM Veterinary Trainee Award Program

The North Carolina Academy of Laboratory Animal Medicine (NCALAM) Veterinary Trainee Award Program supports veterinarians pursuing advanced training in laboratory animal science and comparative medicine.

The program is designed to encourage professional development, provide opportunities for involvement in NCALAM, and support trainees as they prepare for careers in laboratory animal medicine.

Award

Award amount: $1,000 per trainee

Award amounts are subject to change based on available funds.

Funds may be used for laboratory animal medicine-related professional development activities, including:

  • Conference registration and travel
  • Textbooks
  • ACLAM study materials
  • Other training or program-related needs

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Hold a veterinary medical degree from an AVMA-accredited program or meet AVMA foreign veterinary graduate equivalency requirements.
  • Be currently enrolled in an RTLATP residency or another North Carolina residency training program in comparative medicine or laboratory animal medicine.
  • Be a current NCALAM member. Applicants who are not currently members may join NCALAM when applying.
  • Participate on an NCALAM subcommittee. Opportunities may include the Short Course, Program, Outreach, Election, Membership, Webmaster, or other NCALAM committees as assigned by the NCALAM President.

Trainees may receive the award only once.

Application Process

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis.

Applicants should submit:

  • Contact information
  • Training program and program advisor information
  • A letter of support from the program advisor
  • Curriculum vitae
  • A description of participation on an NCALAM subcommittee
  • A brief proposal describing how the award funds will be used
  • A proposed presentation topic for a future NCALAM meeting

Review and Award

Applications are reviewed by the NCALAM Award Committee to confirm that all eligibility requirements have been met.

Selected recipients will be notified by NCALAM, and awards will generally be distributed within one month of notification.

Award recipients will be recognized at an NCALAM meeting and will participate in a subsequent NCALAM meeting following receipt of the award.
